Penticton records a July mean daily maximum of 29.2 °C on Environment and Climate Change Canada normals for 1991–2020. That is the hottest July of any of the seventeen Canadian cities we measured while rebuilding these pages, and it is the reason this page is organised around heat rather than around a university and a hospital list.
Three valleys, two normals periods, one honest table
The figures below are ECCC climate normals. They do not all come from the same period, so the period is printed against each row rather than hidden. Comparing a 1981–2010 number with a 1991–2020 number is not a like-for-like comparison and we are not going to present it as one.

A mean daily maximum is the average of the month's daily highs, not a record. Real afternoons in a Penticton or Osoyoos July run well above the mean, which is the operating assumption the rest of this page is built on.
Transit heat is not the problem. Stationary heat is.
A parcel in motion is in transient conditions: a ventilated trailer, a shaded sorting belt, a van that opens its doors every few minutes. It is not in equilibrium with the outside air and it is not there for long. The exposure that accumulates is the exposure at the end of the route, when the parcel stops moving.
Three places do most of that damage in this part of British Columbia. A sealed metal community mailbox in an unshaded compound acts as a small oven through the afternoon. An unshaded porch or step does the same more slowly. A parked vehicle does it faster and further than either — a car interior in a 30 °C afternoon climbs well past ambient within the first half hour. The difference between a good outcome and a poor one in July is usually measured in how many hours passed between the delivery scan and someone picking the parcel up.
What a lyophilized solid tolerates, and what it does not
Material ships as a lyophilized — freeze-dried — solid in a sealed vial, and that state is a great deal more thermally tolerant than the same compound in solution. Removing the water removes most of the pathway by which a peptide degrades in warm conditions. This is the entire engineering reason the industry lyophilizes.
What dry powder is not indifferent to is moisture ingress and repeated thermal cycling. A vial that heats through an afternoon, cools overnight and heats again the next day is being cycled, and a seal that is broken while the glass is at a very different temperature from the room invites condensation onto the solid. So the summer rules here are the mirror image of the coastal winter rules on our Lower Mainland dispatch page: get the parcel out of the heat promptly, do not store it anywhere that swings, and let a sealed vial equilibrate before you open it. Timing a July delivery in the valley
The practical levers are ordinary and they work. Have the parcel go to an address that is attended during the day rather than one that is empty from eight until six. Collect from a community mailbox the same day the tracking scan lands, in the morning if you can. During a heat spell, hold the parcel at a post office for counter pickup instead of letting it sit in a metal box. And when you do collect it, take it indoors rather than leaving it in the car through the rest of the afternoon.
Our own side of it does not change with the season: dispatched within 48 hours Monday to Friday from British Columbia, 2–8 business days typical delivery, free with no minimum, tracked, in discreet, unbranded, tamper-evident packaging. We do not add ice packs for these materials and it would not help; a spent gel pack in a warm parcel is a humidity source, not a cold source.
Canada Post publishes no day count for any of these three cities
Kelowna, Penticton and Kamloops all fail to appear in Canada Post's Vancouver-origin Priority table in the Delivery Standards of October 2025. Of the thirteen regional pages on this site, this is the only one where that is true of every constituent city. The absence is verifiable and worth stating plainly, and it stops there: it does not tell us what Expedited or Regular Parcel takes, and whether any of the three is a Major Urban Centre in Canada Post's sense is not something we have confirmed. We are not going to guess in either direction.
Geography is at least legible. Kamloops sits at the confluence of the North and South Thompson rivers, where the Trans-Canada Highway meets the Coquihalla, which makes it a road junction of real consequence for anything moving inland from the coast. The Okanagan corridor runs south from Vernon through Kelowna and Penticton to Osoyoos. None of that is a delivery estimate, but it explains why parcels for all three tend to move on the same inland lanes.
Winter is a second, different problem — mostly in Kamloops
Kamloops pairs its 27.7 °C July mean daily maximum with a January mean daily minimum of −8.9 °C, both on ECCC 1991–2020 normals. That is the widest annual spread of any British Columbia location in our comparison set, and it is nearly six degrees colder in January than either Kelowna or Penticton. The consequence for handling is not dramatic, but it is real: the same mailbox that needs emptying quickly in July is a cold soak in January, and a cold sealed vial opened in a heated room condenses.
Why Kelowna and Penticton are one page and not two
They differ by 1.2 °C on July mean daily maximum. On time zone, tax, dispatch origin, carrier lanes, health authority and packaging, they do not differ at all. Two pages built on a 1.2-degree difference would be the same page twice, which is what they were. Penticton's population was 36,885 at the 2021 Census and Kamloops's 97,902 — Penticton is the smallest community covered anywhere in this set. Consolidating them is an editorial decision we would rather explain than disguise.
Research activity across the Okanagan and Thompson valleys — verified August 2026

Barber Faculty of Science, where biochemistry and molecular biology run across both Chemistry and Biology, and through the Southern Medical Program. Kelowna General Hospital and Okanagan College sit alongside it, with Okanagan College also running a Penticton campus. South of Kelowna, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Summerland Research and Development Centre is the region's federal science asset, with Penticton Regional Hospital nearby. In Kamloops, Thompson Rivers University's Department of Physical Sciences within the Faculty of Science maintains an active chemistry research programme, and Royal Inland Hospital serves the Thompson–Nicola. All three cities fall under a single health authority, Interior Health, including one shared clinical research programme — an organisational structure, not a regulatory one.

Regulatory status and research-use position
On 9 April 2026, Health Canada published a public advisory, “Think twice before injecting peptides bought online: unauthorized products can seriously harm you,” naming retatrutide, BPC-157, CJC-1295, GHK-Cu, MOTS-C, TB-500 and other compounds. The advisory states that peptides of this kind are generally regulated as prescription drugs in Canada, that unauthorized drug products are illegal, and — addressing the labelling convention this industry relies on directly — that this type of labelling does not make these products legal or exempt from regulatory requirements.
On 11 June 2026 the Superior Court of Québec granted Health Canada a permanent injunction against a Canadian seller of injectable peptides; Health Canada announced it publicly on 29 July 2026. Enforcement is active.

How hot does it actually get at the address my parcel is delivered to?

Those are averages of daily highs, not record peaks, and the three figures come from two different normals periods, so they are not strictly comparable with one another.
Does summer heat damage lyophilized material while it is in transit?
Transit is rarely where the exposure happens. A parcel in a moving vehicle or a sorting facility sits in shaded, ventilated, transient conditions. The load that matters is stationary and end-of-route: hours in a sealed metal community mailbox in afternoon sun, on an unshaded porch, or in a parked car. Lyophilized solid is far more thermally tolerant than material in solution, which is why it ships as a dry powder.
My mail goes to a community mailbox that bakes in the afternoon. What should I do in July?
Collect it the same day it is scanned as delivered, and preferably not at the end of a long afternoon. If that is not realistic during a heat spell, redirect the parcel to a post office for pickup or to an address that is attended during the day. Once you have it, take it indoors rather than leaving it in the vehicle while you finish errands.
You quote Canada Post day counts for other cities. Why not for this one?

Because splitting them produced three near-identical pages competing with one another.
